In Silicon Valley, where the pace of daily life can feel relentless, the idea of a personal retreat has special appeal. For some homeowners, that retreat begins just beyond the back door—with warm water, a quiet evening and a little time set aside to unwind.

At The Spa and Sauna Co.’s San Jose showroom, the conversation extends beyond a traditional backyard hot tub. Hot Spring Spas, swim spas and sauna options reflect a broader interest in creating comfortable, restorative spaces at home.

A South Bay Story

The company’s connection to the region runs deep. Scott Clark opened South Bay Spa and Sauna in San Jose in 1990, after beginning his career in the hot tub industry in the late 1980s. Co-owner Shelley Ingram-Clark also has a long family connection to the industry: her father, David Ingram, founded Caldera Spas in 1976.

After expanding the business in Nevada, Scott and Shelley returned to their South Bay roots in 2019, when the company acquired the established Hot Spring Spas dealerships serving San Jose and Santa Cruz. The Spa and Sauna Co. now has many convenient locations serving Nevada and California. You can see all of their convenient locations here: View all locations

More Than a Backyard Hot Tub

A well-designed spa can turn an ordinary patio into a place to gather, slow down or simply enjoy a few moments of quiet. The San Jose location carries Hot Spring Spas and Endless Pools Swim Spas, cold plunges and saunas, and BBQs. Selection can vary by showroom.

For readers exploring home wellness, the options serve different purposes. A hot tub emphasizes warm-water soaking and relaxation; a swim spa adds space and water resistance for aquatic activity; a sauna provides a distinct heat-based experience. None is a substitute for medical care, and people with cardiovascular conditions or other health concerns should ask their clinician about safe use.

Designing a Place to Unwind

The appeal is as much about atmosphere as equipment. Lighting, privacy, landscaping and thoughtful placement can make a spa or sauna feel like a natural extension of the home. Practical considerations matter too: access, electrical requirements, water care and long-term service are all worth discussing before installation.

Wellness, With Perspective

Warm-water soaking may provide relaxation, ease muscle pain and help hot tubbers sleep better. Safe water temperature, hydration, maintenance and supervision around children remain important.

For Bay Area homeowners, The Spa and Sauna Co. offers a local place to explore the possibilities in person. Its San Jose showroom is a reminder that a wellness retreat does not always require travel. Sometimes, the destination is home.
